Drone Surveys

A drone survey is an efficient method to assess the condition of difficult to access, out of reach building elements.  Drone surveys have become an increasingly popular and valuable tool in the construction and surveying industries for their ability to streamline the inspection process and provide actionable insights.   Drone surveys are particularly useful for identifying defects and the condition of the building fabric.

Using drones for surveys offers several advantages over traditional inspection methods

What we do?

MDB Associates' drone surveys take place throughout the UK, our work areas include (but are not limited to) the following sites:

  • Urban areas

  • Open countryside

  • Residential

  • Commercial

  • Industrial

Our drones are under 250g, this ensures we can safely and legally fly in more places than heavier drones.  This lightweight drone allows us to operate close to people, buildings and vehicles.

We have an Operator ID, our pilots are Chartered Surveyors and have a Flyer ID.  We always ensure that:

  • Any drone flight remains in visual line of sight of the pilot.

  • We will not fly more than 200ft or 120 m above the surface,

  • We have drone specific third party insurance.

Safety

Drones eliminate the need for climbing and specialist access equipment, reducing the risk of accidents and injuries.

Efficiency

Drones can quickly cover large areas and capture detailed images from various angles, allowing thorough inspections in less time.

cost effective

Drone surveys are often more affordable than hiring specialised equipment and or scaffolding to carry out inspections.

Accuracy

High resolution images captured by drones provide precise information about the condition of the building elements, allowing accurate assessments and recommendations.

How it works

01

Preparation

The site is assessed to identify hazards, privacy / GDPR issues and if any flight restrictions are in place.  If required authorisation from the CAA is sought.

02

Drone Deployment

On the day we ensure the drone is fit for purpose and all necessary safety precautions are in place.  The drone is launched from a safe location, typically nearby the building being inspected.

03

Flight & Imaging

The drone flies over the building, capturing high resolution images and videos of the entire surface or elements of interest.

04

Data Collection

Images provide detailed information about the condition of the building elements, including any damage, wear and tear or potential areas of concern.

05

Analysis & Report Generation

A Chartered Building Surveyor reviews the collected data.  A comprehensive report is produced detailing the findings and recommendations for repairs or maintenance.

06

Decision Making

Our clients can use the inspection report to make informed decisions about any necessary repairs or improvements to the building.
